Day Off For Show Holiday Receives Council's Blessing

NEWCASTLE'S show holiday has local government backing for 2009, despite lobbying from business quarters to have the day off scrapped.
Newcastle City Council reaffirmed last night its commitment to apply to the NSW Office of Industrial Relations to proclaim a holiday in the local government area on Friday, March 27.The council agreed to do so in October, but councillors Aaron Buman, Shayne Connell and Mike King later asked for the decision to be reversed.
