PINDIMAR Bundabah Community Association is lobbying Port Stephens and Great Lakes councils to change their policies on commercial aquaculture developments in a bid to protect the Port Stephens marine environment.

The push comes after the association stopped an abalone farm development at South Pindimar earlier this year through a Land and Environment Court challenge.

The association's aquaculture committee chairman Peter Economos addressed Port Stephens councillors this week and has made similar representations at Great Lakes. He suggested disallowing any form of land-based agriculture that discharges into the estuaries of Port Stephens or takes water from them.
