NEWCASTLE legal professionals say they will oppose plans for a new mental health unit on the James Fletcher Hospital site and continue lobbying for a new court complex instead.
A development application is before Newcastle City Council to build a new 20-bed non-acute mental health unit at the corner of Church and Newcomen streets but Newcastle Law Society president Catherine Henry said yesterday a coalition of legal groups wanted the State Government to establish a new court complex on the site, so the historic district court building on Church Street could be preserved with development occurring around it.
