Lighthouse Campaign

Illawarra Mercury

Friday March 2, 2007

KIAMA MP Matt Brown is lobbying his own government for funding to restore the Kiama Lighthouse.

Mr Brown said he had been in touch with Lands Minister Tony Kelly to seek funding for the 120-year-old icon.

It is believed the lighthouse could cost up to $200,000 to repair, though an assessment has yet to be carried out.

Among its features was a "nearly priceless" spherically shaped lens, Mr Brown said.

The lighthouse was badly in need of a paint job.

Mr Brown took up the cause after an approach from Kiama Lighthouse Association of Australia member Ian Clifford.
